Atheists, Agnostics, and Rationalists at UCI

Our Mission

• Atheists, Agnostics, and Rationalists at UCI (AAR @ UCI) is dedicated to raising awareness of non-theists and non-theistic issues. Committed to a rational worldview, we cherish the contributions of the scientific community and universally oppose the undemocratic imposition of superstition and myth. We seek to correct the stereotype that non-theists are apathetic, immoral, and untrustworthy.

Our Meetings

• At our weekly meetings, we discuss religious, atheist, agnostic, and freethinking issues. Topics of past discussions include:
  • Evolution vs. Creationism
  • Evangelical Christianity and politics
  • The separation of church and state and the Supreme Court justices
  • The Catholic Church and sex education
  • Notable atheists and agnostics
  • Dealing with discrimination or hate speech as an atheist/agnostic
  • Religion and medicine/health
  • Atheists and agnostics and the issue of morality
  • Debunking common “proofs” of God’s existence
• We invite people from the local and campus community to speak about atheist/agnostic and scientific issues. Past presentations include:
  • “The Ins and Outs of Debating Creationism” by Brian Dunning of the podcast Skeptoid.
  • “The Big Bang Theory” by Professor Jeffery Cooke of the Physics and Astronomy department at UC Irvine.
• We also enjoy holding small parties during our meetings or BBQs on the weekend, so we have fun too!
