About Us

What is CalPIRG?

The California Public Interest Research Group (CALPIRG) is a student run and student funded consumer advocacy and environmental organization. We fight for change on big issues like environmental protection, energy policy, public transit, cheaper textbooks, and hunger and homelessness in our communities. We work to implement solutions locally at UCI, and statewide by joining with other CALPIRG chapters across the UC's to advocate for larger change. For 25 years, students who have been involved with CALPIRG have learned how to investigate a problem and come up with a practical solution, plus convince the media and decision-makers to pay attention and take action. When are the meetings?

Everyone is welcome at our weekly meetings: Mondays 6-7 pm, Pacific Ballroom A in the Student Center.

How can I get involved?

  1. Check us out at our weekly meetings. Hear updates on our campaigns, help plan upcoming events, eat good food and hang out with smart, fun people.
  2. Volunteer at an event -- from serving at a homeless shelter to creating a campus bookswap to holding a press conference with our members of Congress, there's a role to fit your interests, and you can start making an impact right away.
  3. Intern with us! You can design a project in one of our broad policy areas and work with a team of students to make real change. Plus, by enrolling in our weekly intern class you can learn great job skills and earn 4 credits!
