Q. How do I become a member of UCI Circle K?
A. Easy! Fill out a
member application sheet as seen on the front page slider and turn it in with the dues to
ANY board member! For extra questions regarding the membership form or dues, talk to any board member or email
President John Do!
Q. Do I have to go to the meetings/orientation to be a member? What if I can't go to meetings?
A. If you can't make it to our weekly meetings, don't worry about it! Make sure you sign up to receive the weekly emails on the front page and check the calendar frequently to see when and what our upcoming events are for the week. If you want to go to an event, please email our Vice President of Service Roland Moder at
ucickivps@gmail.com to let him know.
Q. Do I have to be a paid member to be able to go to events?
A. Of course not! Doing community service is something that comes from the heart! While paying dues gets you so many more benefits, if you just want to help out the community, you can simply go to the events and volunteer your time. However, we do encourage you do pay for dues if you can.
Most events do have a limit though, and paid members will have a priority for attending events.
Q. How may I become more involved in Circle K?
A. Going to more events, attending meetings regularly, and staying for socials after meetings! We also recommend applying to join a committee (fundraising, single service, etc.)! Additionally, beyond service projects, there are other activities such as tabling on campus, and attending meetings/events for other schools in our division and district!
Q. Why are dues so expensive? What do they go towards?
A. Some money is given to International Headquarters, and some to the district for administrative purposes. Some of the money goes towards reimbursing drivers for gas spent driving to serivce projects. Because of this, paid members have priority on rides to events when spots are limited. Finally, money is used on goodies for you as a member! This includes helping cover the cost of certain paid-member only events such as Fall Training Conference (FTC) and District Convention (DCON). Membership also makes you eligible for scholarships from the organization!
Q. How often do you have to pay dues?
A. Dues only need to be paid once a year!
Q. What does some of the money we fundraise go towards?
A. Some of the causes we support are United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF, Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP), March of Dimes, Students Team Up to Fight Hunger (STUFH), and Share our Strength. Our service initiative this year is Active Care for Teenagers (ACT).
Q. Where do we meet up for events?
A. We always meet up at the flagpoles, which are next to Aldrich Hall. Look at the calendar to see what times we meet up. Rides are always provided! However, priority for rides do go to members of Circle K, and most events do have a limit, typically 2-3 cars full, (which is why signing up is important!). Sign up through the calendar!
Q. What if I signed up for an event and can no longer attend?
A. Please try to contact the respective chair of that event FIRST(check on the
calendar page). If that does not work, THEN please contact
Roland Moder, our Vice President of Service.
Q. What do you do at ____ event?
A. If you're curious about what we do at an event, read the description of the event in the calendar! Just click on the event to see it! If there is no description, then you can email
Roland Moder, our Vice President of Service.
Q. I didn't join at the beginning of the quarter. Is it still too late to join? Should I wait until next quarter to join?
A. It's never too late to join! Be sure to turn in a membership application along with your dues to any board member!
Q. Are there any requirements to be a member? (i.e. certain amount of hours per new member)
A. There are absolutely no requirements to join! We won't force you to do a certain amount of hours to stay in the club. You can dedicate as much time as you want, but the more the better!
Q. Are there any requirements to be a board member?
A. To apply to be on Appointed Board, there are no official requirements besides an application and interview process. However, if you are interested in running for board, it is advised that you try to attend all events as much as possible! Additionally, you should talk to the current board member in the position you are considering, and find out what is required of that position, and what would be important to do prior to running. To apply to be on Elected Board (President, VP, etc.), you will have to make a speech to the club during election time and you will be elected by vote into the position. As above, it would be helpful to talk to the current board member of that position to learn more about it.
Q. Who would I contact if I had information on new service opportunities?
Q. You guys are really spirited but I don't really like cheering that much. Do I have to cheer?
A. We will never force you to cheer. If you feel uncomfortable, you can stay back and watch everyone else cheer. Though, after a while it does start getting contagious and you might actually start to hear yourself cheer. :]
