This year, our club will be supporting three District Fundraising Initiatives (DFI's), chosen by the Cal-Nev-Ha District. By fundraising for these charities, we will be helping these groups continue to do what they do best and that is helping people.
This program was established by the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation to recognize the importance in education and training in the area of pediatric trauma and injury prevention. The program's mission is to develop local projects that will decrease the number of children that are killed or injured by trauma.
The Foundation is partnered with local hospitals in Oakland, San Diego, Loma Linda, Madera, Honolulu and Reno; to utilize the knowledge and expertise of these facilities to identify projects that address the issue of Pediatric Trauma.
The Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation works with our partner hospitals to provide funds for training pediatric doctors, nurses and first responders, to purchase pediatric medical equipment and expand community outreach programs.
Donations to Pediatric Trauma Program are spent in three major ways:
- Grants to our partner hospitals
- Grants to Kiwanis and Service Leadership Program clubs
- PTP safety items which are available for purchase by the Kiwanis family at a subsidized cost
Your club can help prevent unintentional injuries in your community by sponsoring a service project or promoting awareness on topics such as: Bicycle Safety, Bicycle Safety Helmets, Booster Seats, Child Abuse Prevention, Child Passenger Safety, Child Safety, Child Safety Seats, Children's Miracle Network, Fire Prevention, First Aid and CPR, Home Safety, Immunizations, Injury Prevention, Pediatric Trauma, Playground Safety, Poison Prevention, Safety Belts, Shaken Baby Syndrome, Smoking Awareness and Water Safety.

Students Team Up to Fight Hunger (STUFH) is an a U.S. National non-profit organization that focuses on linking college students to their local food banks. The goal is to give college students a sense of community and to donate food to the less fortunate. At the end of the school year, rather than throwing away unopened food, STUFH offers food bins in order to collect these unwanted items.
STUFH and CKI work together to fight hunger in America. Now that there is an economic downturn, food banks need help more than ever. Since the start of the program in 1999, over two million pounds of foodstuffs have been raised for local food banks to feed the hungry. Every year, the number of pounds of foodstuff raised is increased, helping to fight hunger in local communities.
How to help and support:
-
"Food Fight": a battle to raise the most food for the local food bank, which is supposed to mirror a battle on the football field. Help raise the most food for our local food bank such as the OC Food Bank
