Once a mere conspiracy theory whispered of in the shadowy corners of video game fora, the Feminist Illuminati is now a collective that does organizing, outreach, and advocacy focused on intersectional feminism.
What is intersectional feminism?
Intersectional feminism is an emancipatory network of ideas, people, and movements aimed at dismantling intersecting oppressive systems of gender, class, race, sexuality, nationality, ability, religion, and privilege more broadly. Feminism — yes, that tabooed f-word — is about social, economic, and political justice for all.
What do the feminist illuminati do?
We provide the emotional and intellectual tools to survive and transform a culture that sucks. We do this through, among other things:
- Providing UCI students concrete opportunities to help address inequity
- Organizing workshops and educational materials about intersectional issues
- Online and IRL media campaigns that promote empathy and thoughtful action
- Backing up folks who want to make change with guidance, space, and support.
How can I get involved?
Thank you for asking! The easiest thing to do is sign up for our mailing list or follow us on facebook where you can find out about future events and small things you can do to make UCI a more inclusive place.
This quarter, stop by one of our meetings, Thursdays at 6:30 at the Womxn’s Hub in the Cross Cultural Center. You can also follow our other social media accounts, or just send us an email. We’d love to hear from you!
