For those who came, you know how funny an experience this was. For those who missed it, well, JOIN US NEXT TIME! It was a great opportunity to be on television and the very least, to experience a TV Taping while raising money for our club! We thank each and every one of you who came to support us, including the families of those in HBI. We look forward to our next Taping event and hope more will join us next time!

Sign-ups will be available for Saturday’s (Feb 4) volunteer opportunity at the Orange County Rescue Mission from 6-8pm. We will also be discussing rides to the event. If you are interested in coming, you must attend this meeting.

Secondly, we will be discussing building spirit for our club through club apparel! We will review what we need to do and how many members we need to get in order to make this goal economically feasible. We will also be discussing taking club pictures and individual member pictures for the website as well!

Third, we will review the outcome of the Boothing Event that went on the day before. We want to hear the results you produced! How many cupcakes were sold? How many people signed up?
etc.

Fourth, we will discuss other TV taping opportunities in case the one on Feb. 4 doesn’t work out since we are on the wait list!

Lastly, PLEASE HAVE YOUR DUES IN BY THIS MEETING. We hope to see you there.

We will be discussing the Volunteer Opportunity at the OC Rescue Mission. We will create shifts for this once a month experience to help the homeless and build relationships with the temporary residents there. We will also brainstorm ideas on what kinds of programs we can hold for the residents there (once a month) such as yoga sessions, piano lessons, gardening sessions, etc. We want to hear YOUR ideas! We will also be handing out the fliers for the Cha Fundraiser event on Thursday, January 19. Please come get the fliers so we can raise funds for our club! Lastly, we will continue planning our TV taping event for the quarter. Please join us for this very important meeting where your input counts!

After meeting with the OC Rescue Mission volunteer coordinator, we were offered a volunteer group opportunity the 4th Saturday of every month. This is a committed opportunity in which if accepted, we will be responsible for providing volunteers for that shift (10 – 15 volunteers each shift). All interested volunteers will need to sign a group liability waiver as well as have a live scan/background check conducted free of charge at the Mission before they serve. This volunteer opportunity entails watching the kids of the parents who attend service at the chapel there from 6pm to 8pm. Those who volunteer must be passionate, sincere, and sympathetic for many of these kids have faced neglect, homelessness, and abandonment. As volunteers, we simply keep an eye on them as they play for two hours at the center there. If interested, please contact Avo.

We hope everyone had a great break and we look forward to a new quarter of helping and giving! We will be kicking off Winter quarter of HBI with several events. First, the success of our TV Taping event over break has convinced many of us to make it a tradition to attend one every quarter! Hence, we will be planning our next Taping event for Winter. Second, we will be holding another Cha Fundraiser which is going to be next Tuesday (Jan. 17) instead of our weekly meeting. Third, it’s that time again — membership dues (only $10) are due by next Tuesday (Jan.17) at our Cha for Tea meeting. Lastly, as many of you already know, we will be visiting the Orange County Rescue Mission this Thursday (Jan. 12) to determine if their volunteer program (about once a month) can be a good way for us to build relationships with the people who live there so our contributions can be more meaningful and our efforts more emotionally-driven. We appreciate all of you who made an effort to come and support us in raising funds for the club. It was a great experience and we hope to do this again soon. Next time, we will be attending an episode for BIG BANG THEORY so we look forward to having more of you enjoy this experience with us!

I appreciate all of you coming out this week to make some no-sew blankets for the homeless! Here are some important matters we discussed:

• Winter Quarter meetings will be held on Mondays at 6:30pm. Please check your schedules for next quarter and let us know if this time works for you!
• We will be holding a fundraising booth this Friday as well as next Monday and Tuesday. We will be selling brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Please come with friends and support us!
• We are gradually approaching the momentous time when we actually donate all the items we have collected this year! We are currently working on arrangements with shelters and other organizations to make sure we provide much-needed assistance to the homeless in a safe and direct manner. Moreover, we actually want to do good rather than “enable” them. But, it isn’t simple and it is important to work with experienced providers to make sure the right people are being helped. If you have suggestions, please let us know!
