It is my pleasure to invite you to the Twentieth Annual University of California, Irvine Model United Nations High School Conference. We the conference will take place May 26-27, 2012 in the UCI Student Center on our beautiful campus. Last year we had the pleasure of hosting our largest and most successful conference yet, and 2012 will be even better. UCIMUN's staff represents a diverse cross section of UCI students from a wide variety of academic disciplines. We strive to create an interesting and challenging environment for high level debate, while also assisting newer delegates.
The theme for this year's conference is: "Regional Solutions to Global Problems". Every committee will have at least one topic related directly to our theme and several will focus exclusively on it. Our theme serves as focus point for delegates' research and as a gateway to find new ideas to solve old regional and international problems. To do this we have a unique set of topics and several committees not often seen in high school MUN conferences to pose new and unfamiliar challenges to delegates.
I would also like to announce the UCI Model United Nations High School Outreach Program. This new program has been launched as part of the UCI School of Social Sciences' commitment to enriching the education of students in local high school. Our goal is to provide schools with newly developing MUN programs, and those with smaller clubs or classes who might be lacking sufficient institutional support or experienced delegates, with a team of experienced UCIMUN students to assist with training and instruction in preparation for the High School Conference. We offer customized programs to fit your needs, whether it be a single clinic or multiple visits over a longer term. Possible topics include: research, speechmaking, debating, caucusing, UN information, resolution writing and help with specific topics for our conference. If you are interested in our outreach program for your class or club, please contact us so we can discuss how UCIMUN can discuss your particular needs.
Please direct questions to ucimunsg@gmail.com and you will receive a prompt reply. Thank you, and looking forward to seeing you at our conference next spring.
