Campus LifeDomestic Partner BenefitsOn-campus housing is available for graduate students and their domestic partners. A notarized affidavit of domestic partnership through UCI housing is required. You do not have to register with the state. For more information, please visit the housing website. LGBT Resource CenterThe LGBT Resource Center is dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for UCI's diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and ally communities. They raise awareness, increase visibility, and engage in advocacy regarding LGBTQQIA issues. In addition, they provide opportunities for leadership and personal development, serve as a resource for LGBTQQIA students, and create programs and services that work to eliminate heterosexism, homophobia, and gender identity oppression. They strive to develop an atmosphere of acceptance and wellbeing in which the campus community can support the academic mission of the university. Come check out the new LGBTRC space in G301 Student Center South! QGC EventsThe QGC organizes social and academic programming for graduate students and the UCI community. We host parties, lectures, films, and discussion groups. All are welcome at our events (faculty, staff, partners, friends, allies, etc.). QGC-sponsored events are listed on the events portion of this site. Counseling CenterThe Counseling Center offers individual and group counseling for LGBT graduate students and couples. There is an LGBT Graduate Student Group whose purpose is to facilitate the exploration of issues such as adjustment to graduate school, relationships, family, coming out, career decisions, intersections of sexual orientation, race, gender, academic life, and living in a heterosexist society. The group will provide support and encouragement for each member's concerns. The counseling center also runs the LGBT Mentoring Program which supports LGBT students in their personal journey towards becoming healthy, self-accepting LGBT women and men. They aspire to help LGBT students feel comfortable in their own skins as LGBT women and men and to make coming out an empowering, positive experience. Safe ZoneSafe Zone is a symbol of the University of California, Irvine's commitment to diversity and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community on campus. Safe Zone creates a more welcoming campus climate for LGBTQ and Ally faculty, staff, and students. Speakers BureauThe Speakers Bureau is composed of a group of trained speakers who share their personal journeys as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or ally individuals on panel presentations. Audiences are encouraged to ask questions to get an idea of some of the emotions, struggles or accomplishments involved in the LGBT/Ally student or staff member's life.
